Guiding future built form in Footscray

Global South, in collaboration with urban design practice Hodyl & Co., recently completed the Footscray Built Form Review 2020, for Maribyrnong City Council.

We worked closely with Council officers and private and public sector stakeholders to investigate the context for development in Footscray, the challenges for proponents and government, and the opportunities to optimise outcomes into the future.

This comprehensive study provides a broad range of recommendations for changes to built form controls across Central Footscray, responding to local context, current and future character directions, public realm amenity drivers, and best practice urban design principles, while facilitating design flexibility and site responsiveness. The report is currently being considered by Council, and may inform a future Planning Scheme Amendment.
